Beautiful Fuchsia
The Beech Gardeners visited Little Brook Fuchsia Nursery at Ash Green on Wednesday 17 June where Carol Grubler runs a Fuchsia nursery where she propagates and sells thousands of fuchsia cuttings each year. Fourteen intrepid BGs met at the village hall after lunch and went over to Ash Green in four cars on a wonderfully warm sunny afternoon.
Carol had promised us with “tea at hers” – so we were very keen to get on with looking at her wonderful display of fuchsias and other plants in her garden.

Carol told us that she had lived there with her parents since 1979 and had taken over from her father with the cultivation and propagation of hundreds of varieties of fuchsia. She told us that she taken approximately four thousand cuttings from September onwards, bringing them on in her 5 greenhouses.
We explored her very large garden looking at all her shrubs, trees and plants and an amazing row of about 20 poplar trees on her southern boundary, waving and creaking in the strong breeze. Her father had planted some weeping willow trees and some beautiful grey or silver cedars We looked into all the greenhouses and carefully explored the one where all her parent plants were displayed. We then sat around chatting with tea and biscuits before setting off for home before the rush-hour. A greatly enjoyable afternoon, once again.
