Hi, I would like to introduce myself to those of you who don’t know me. My name is Lynn and until recently I have worked as the chaplain at Treloar School and College. Since retiring, my focus, as a priest, has been based at St Peter’s and it has been a joy to be there over the Christmas period.
Christmas for me actually started at the beginning of Advent as we lit the candles on the Advent wreath each Sunday reminding us of the Christian message of, love, joy, hope and peace. On the first Advent Sunday we read together a poem Ode to Winterby Gillian Clarke which describes the darkness of the season but also the potential, the hope and the looking forward to Christmas …. and we had plenty to look forward to!
On the 9thDecember many of us were treated to an excellent Christmas lunch with all the trimmings in the village hall (a huge thanks to all those involved in producing this and making it happen). Then on the 22ndwe held our Carol Service ably supported by the Covenant Training and Youth Choir. The church was packed as we listened to the Christmas story told in words and carols whilst the children assembled the crib. All this rounded off by mulled wine and goodies. Christmas Day was an equally joyous occasion with the congregation swollen by friends and family – a brilliant way to start the day.
Looking ahead we are planning a special Mothers’ Day service on the 22ndof March and, of course, celebrations on the 12thApril, Easter Sunday.
We would love to see you, both regular and new faces, any Sunday morning at 9.15. I can assure you of a warm welcome.
With every blessing for the New Year,
Revd. Lynn Power
