In support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, and the Ukraine relief effort, we now have a recycling bin for clothing and textiles in the car park at Beech Village Hall. Please put your unwanted items in carrier bags or bin bags and drop them into the recycling bin. The Air Ambulance can accept:
Clothes, including bras
Shoes
Bags, belts and hats
Sheets, towels, pillow cases and duvet cases (they cannot accept duvets)
In addition, the Air Ambulance and its partner, Recycling Solutions, are collecting high-demand, essential items for the Ukraine relief effort: Nappies, Baby Wipes, Vaseline, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Mouthwash, Bottled water, Soap, Shampoo, Shower gel, Bandages, Plasters, Toilet paper, Sanitary Towels and Baby Formula. If you wish to contribute, please bag these items up, mark the bag “Ukraine” and put it in the recycling bin.
The bin will be emptied regularly by Recycling Solutions, which manages the logistics of collection, storage, sorting and distribution. Please do not leave any donations outside the bin!
Each year, an estimated 350,000 tonnes of used but still wearable clothing in the UK is sent to landfill – that’s around £140 million worth of clothes and textiles. Textile recycling helps save the environment by reducing waste at landfill sites, and provides an affordable clothing supply to communities worldwide. Good quality items which can be reused are sold to second-hand clothing traders in the UK and worldwide. ‘End of life’ garments are recycled into industrial wipers and cloths, mattress filling, insulation and new fibres.
For every tonne of clothing collected, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is guaranteed to receive at least £210, helping to keep this essential public service, which relies entirely on public donations, in the air.
