Following the incident on the Village Green last summer, the Beech Village Hall Management Committee decided to lift and re-seed the turf on the Village Green in the area affected. Our main aim was to fully remove any remaining glass and nails that may have been left behind despite two rounds of manual work by volunteers. Our contractor did indeed find further dangerous shards of glass embedded in the grass.
The old turf in this area has now been skimmed off, and our contractor has levelled the area, added topsoil and re-seeded with fast-growing grass seed. The entire area affected remains fenced off with tape for protection, and we ask everyone to avoid walking on this area until the grass has become established, when the tape will be removed. Most of the Green, the footpath across it and the play area remain open as usual. We have arranged daily watering in the absence of rainfall!
