A Blustery Bonfire Night!
Photos: Nick Charman, Helen Jayalath
The rain passed by in time for the annual Beech bonfire held this year on 2nd November, but it left a blustery wind which certainly made the sparks fly! Thanks to our team of marshals for keeping their eyes open for anything that shouldn’t be burning!
The torchlight procession was enchanting, the bonfire went off like a rocket and the fireworks were brilliant thanks to Nick Sorby and his team.
It was wonderful to welcome a number of families who are new to Beech to their first Village event, together with a collection of grandchildren and even one very brave dog. One new family said it was the best fireworks that they had ever been to, and they loved watching the old gate they had donated to the bonfire burn itself away!
However, numbers were a bit down on previous years, probably due to half term and the unpredictable weather, so some of our regulars were missing, and so we did not quite cover our firework costs this year. The Social Committee is actively considering how to avoid this situation in future years, and your feedback or suggestions will be very welcome.
